What makes a race board fast?

Race boards are narrower than touring boards and often 12'6" or 14' long, with a sharp, cutting nose and a refined hull shape. Many models use carbon in the construction for maximum stiffness and minimal weight. That delivers top speed, but calls for good balance and technique.

Who is a racing SUP for?

A race board is intended for advanced paddlers who want to push their limits. If you've mastered your technique and want to go faster and further, this is the right choice. Torn between touring and racing? Our review pages compare stiffness, speed and stability.

From touring to racing

If you're moving from touring to racing, you'll need to get used to the narrower width: practise your balance on calm water first. Work on a high stroke rate and a powerful pull, and use a light carbon paddle to save energy. With a little training you'll soon experience the speed that race boards are known for.
