SUP board for 150 kg: what you need to know
What to check
At 150 kg or with multiple riders, eight points carry extra weight. Run through them before you pick a board.
Capacity with margin
Pick a board with at least 20 kg headroom over your load. A board rated for exactly 150 kg is on the edge — not ideal.
Volume in litres
Roughly 2× your body weight in litres. 150 kg means around 280-320 L of volume.
Width of at least 33"
Narrower than 32 inches gets wobbly. For real stability under heavy load: 33-36 inches wide.
6 inch (15 cm) thickness
Thinner boards (4-5") flex under high load. Choose 6 inch, or a dual-chamber build.
Stiffness & construction
Look for dual-layer, fusion or carbon rails. Single-layer iSUPs are often too soft for 150 kg.
Pump to 18-20 PSI
Higher pressure = stiffer board = less flex. A decent electric pump is not a luxury.
Paddle at the right length
Heavier/taller riders: paddle 25-30 cm above your height, with a larger blade for more pull.
Safety: leash + PFD
Required on open water. Two riders means two leashes and two PFDs. Don't rely on "we can swim".
Riding a SUP with multiple people
Add a child, partner or dog and total weight climbs past 150 kg fast. Guidelines per combo:

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a standard 10'6" board if I weigh 150 kg?
Usually not. An average 10'6" iSUP is rated for 110-140 kg. For 150 kg+ pick a board from 11'6" with at least 180 kg capacity.
What happens if I exceed the capacity?
The board rides deeper, glides worse and gets unstable. Sustained overloading can stress seams and air chambers, shortening lifespan.
Is a hard board better than an iSUP at 150 kg?
Not necessarily. A good 6"-thick iSUP, 33-36" wide with dual-layer construction is plenty stable and far easier to transport.
How hard should I pump my board?
Heavier riders: always pump to the manufacturer's maximum (usually 15-20 PSI). An electric pump is a huge help.
